Dodo Mat Insulation and Sound
Deadening
A noisy van that rattles and vibrates
will affect how comfortable you are when driving it, by
installing sound deadening products, you will be able to
help reduce this and leave you with a more calm place
to be. Dodo Mat uses high quality materials to give a
more efficient reduce in noise and thermal conduction
than other brands, meaning you can potentially use less
material for the same effect. All the products they
manufacture are testing in accordance with flammability
testing to ensure it meets regulations that help keep
you safe.
Where do I start with my van
conversion?
Always start with the sound
deadening. When thermal insulation is in the way, it’s a
battle trying to get the sound deadening sheets to stick
onto the bodywork. First make sure the areas you’ve
chosen to convert are free from dust and dirt, then it’s
time to measure out some of the sound proofing sheets
or rolls. Once that stage is complete, you can either
replace any carpet taken up, or get some insulation in to
go the distance.
How so I soundproof my
van?
By sticking sound deadening materials
to panels in your van, it can help reduce the bodywork
vibration and resonating frequencies. Utilising larger
rolls of sound deadening for large flat areas will save
you time, and by installing the smaller mats in the tricky
areas you can cover all the problem areas.
Without thermal insulation, your van or camper
conversion is likely to lose any heat you have in the
winter and will be uncomfortably warm in the summer,
which is not a great situation if you plan to sleep in it.
How can I insulate my van?
Utilising strategic products like fleece roll and liner
rolls in the right places, you can ensure you trap all the
heat you can in the winter, and keep it cool in the
summer. Fleece rolls are great for deep areas like door
areas between the framework, where usually the
bodywork is the thinnest. We always recommend a
product such as the Super Liner for a flooring underlay
as it’s a relatively low profile and forgiving material
being a self-adhesive foam roll. Metallised film foam roll
is perfect for the walls and ceiling, covering large areas
easily and providing great thermal protection in the key
areas.
How much do I need for my van?
Ideally the walls and roof of a large panel van
will take around 5 square metres of insulation sound
insulation doesn’t have to cover every inch, but we’d
say cover where you can to get the best out of the
product, and saving yourself having to go back in and
do the job again. We recommend to aim for a 50%
coverage for the best results.
Ultimately you
can have to weigh up the space you have with how
much sound deadening and insulation you can fit in.
Just remember that everything you install is making it a
more comfortable place to be, both temperature and
noise.
