TRANSIT CUSTOM MK2 2024-
BUMPER PROTECTORS
Damaged paintwork
happens just through using your van, but if you’re lucky
enough to have a new shape Ford Transit Custom, you’ll
want to keep it looking its best. Don’t wait for damage
to happen before thinking about protecting it.
A hazard of using the rear doors for loading and
unloading, no matter how careful you are, is that you
catch the bumper with something heavy or sharp,
causing scratches, scuffs or even chips. The easiest way
to solve this problem is by adding a bumper protector.
Acting as a sacrificial layer, the bumper protector sit on
the horizontal surface, efficiently protecting the delicate
paintwork.
Commonly bumper protectors are
constructed using ABS plastic for a flexible but strong
shell. Using plastic allows for precision fitment, but also
an inexpensive accessory as it’s not using exotic
materials for something that’s likely to be replaced in
the future. Usually plastic protectors are available in
various colourways, offering choice to match your style
or compliment the colour of your van.
Other
bumper protectors might use steel, or even carbon
fibre, which adds to the style and might be exactly what
you’re after if you’re keen to increase the aesthetic
appeal of your Transit Custom.
Stainless steel
bumper protectors often come in different colours and
finished, such as brushed or polished, and whilst some
people might like the look of a mirror finish, it’s worth
noting that a brush finish can help disguise scuff marks
and help keep your van looking pristine.
An
important consideration is the profile of the bumper
protector. Some products will be a flat profile, which
covers the flat horizontal surface of the bumper,
whereas others curve round the next edge to offer more
coverage. A bigger profile generally covers an exposed
edge, which is vulnerable to chips as it’s out in the
breeze, but it’s not always feasible to get this profile in
all material, so check out the options before making
your decision.

FAQ:
Q: Can I fit a bumper protector on a
damaged bumper?
A: Absolutely, hindsight is a
wonderful thing, but aslong as the bumper isn’t cracked
or has blistering paint, get a protector over the top of it
to hide minor damage.
Q: Can you remove a
bumper protector?
A: They’re attached using self-
adhesive tape, which is designed to stick well, but can
be removed with a bit of fiddly peeling. You’ll have to
remove any adhesive residue after you’ve removed it,
polishing may help afterwards too.
