Thule Awnings
Thule awnings are designed
to fit to the side of your van or campervan to give
shelter anytime you need it, the perfect
companion for people who like to outdoor comfort and
convenience. Innovating with durable sleek designs,
Thule have carved a niche for themselves in providing
high-quality products for adventurers and campers
alike.
How are awnings used?
Different types of awnings such as pull out and
wind out refer to their operation, usually meaning they
will be a fixed unit that uses a handle to wind out the
awning before deploying the legs. Pull out canopies will
roll out and create tension using bars along the sides of
the fabric and will still use legs to provide adjustable
support.
With different options, which should
I go for?
The type of awning best suited can
heavily depend on what type of fitting you want. Wind
out awnings need a perfect fitment to operate correctly,
and we’d recommend professional fitment to be able to
achieve this. As all wind out awnings require vehicle
specific brackets, you would need to check that your
vehicle has a bracket suitable.
Roll out
awnings can often fit to roof bars, so as long as your
vehicle has the capacity to carry T-track ready roof bars,
you can fit a Thule awning, meaning at home fitment is
suitable, but they’re still available with vehicle specific
brackets.
When fitted, your awning canopy
will give sheltered entry into your vehicle, so most
people will choose to fit it in relation to where the sliding
door is, making access a little easier in less than ideal
conditions.
My van is already fitted with a Pop
Top roof, can I still fit an awning?
Yes, even
with a Pop-Top, you can still fit an awning. Vehicle
specific brackets are designed to work alongside
converted vans to allow for both to be used, but it’s
always worth checking with the roof manufacturer or
measuring to ensure there’s enough clearance for both
to work perfectly.
Can I get more use out of
my awning?
Engineered to provide shade on
sunny days and to give shelter on rainy days, but if you
want even more, then it might be worth looking at the
range of accessories designed for wind out versions. The
awning accessories can help convert them into sleeping
areas, expanding the usable space on your van and
giving you the option of travelling a bit lighter by
minimising the equipment you’ll actually need. Camper
vans living areas can be pretty cramped, so you can
increase the amount of room you have by providing
great areas to relax or even cook in if well ventilated.
